electrical outlet

an electrical outlet always has ready electricity
(except for storm, or failure to pay the bill, etc... so here the analogy fails but...)
we only need to plug the lamp into the wall socket
if a lamp does not light up the room cuz it doesnt turn on
then we can check the bulb,
the switch,
the bulb socket,
even the wire... we can DO all these things
but if it isn't plugged into the wall
there will be no light
